From Diwiki.org
- With already hundreds of months of experience using Mediawiki both as a personal and professional tool, all started at Zaragoza in October 2006. Idea was to build a free local Wikinfos. Something similar to a local newspaper but on the Web with infos and many plus. Beyond texts, plus are of course illimited links, pictures, videos, animations, historials, conversations, ... More than only news is also core of the project. That means whatever interests someone, is worth to publish. It is not like a mass newspaper but providing instead long tail informations. That goes well with building up as many conversations as possible. Motto was DiWiki your Wikinfos are "3 time yours": you watch, you edit, you talk. It is why wiki was picked out as the underlying technology. Mediawiki was of course the server software package to be selected. Dream to come true was to build a worldwide network of free local Wikinfos.
- Business model is to finance each DiWiki with something similar to advertisements. But the format of DiWiki ads is not standard. Today marketing success motto is "markets are conversations". DiWiki.org ads are conversations. Interviews are the most common format of DiWiki ads. Storytelling is the way to drive interviews. Interview pages look like information pages, but a small icon "publi-report" displays the truth. Upon clients requests, all other ads formats are of course ok. Clients are companies, services, shops, associations, etc... The whole project was founded and still owned by private investors and business angels only. Code name 1839 was selected as a reminder of the year 1839 when Schibsted group and Daguérrotype were invented. Reference is also constant to Guide Michelin 1900 first edition which was... free and to be made by contributors.
- Today number of places, where DiWiki.org is present, is steadily growing. Much more are on the way. Each local publication benefits each others, sharing contents and contributors. Local publications are multilingual. Have a look for instance at Malaga, Paris, Strasbourg, Zaragoza DiWiki.org publications. But "local" is not strict... look also at Chemin de Saint Jacques or at... Antropologia. So local means "locally" shared interest.
- So to face its big development DiWiki.org is recruiting partners. Come and join the DiWiki.org partners team, there is a place, an interest, a skill you will enjoy to share with DiWiki.org...
